2007 Georgia Police and Fire Games

Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. June 20, 2007- The Cherokee Sheriff's Office was well represented in this years Georgia Police and Fire Games. National Olympic-style athletic competition between public safety officials began in the late 1960's. Georgia started the games in 1984 in Carroll County. This years event took place in Hall county between June 18th through June 24th. Hundreds of public safety personel from across the state competed in the event.

Participants from the Cherokee Sheriff's Office won 12 medals in this years event. Major David Bores won the gold medal in mountain biking, Lt. Joe Satterfield won the gold medal in "man vs. man" reactive shooting, Sgt. Jody Power won 2 gold medals in semi-auto and revolver shooting, Cpl. John New won the silver medal in the "tough cop" competition, Corporal Melissa Shaw won 2 gold medals in womens semi-auto and revolver shooting, Deputy Scott Ryder won the silver medal in the "motorcycle rodeo", Deputy Patrick Neal won the silver medal in "man vs. man" reactive shooting, Deputy Tiger Green won a gold medal for bench press for his age bracket and won the bronze medal for overall bench press, and Scott McElroy won the bronze medal for the "tough cop" competition. Other deputies participating in the games were Deputies Terrel Styles, Chris Furman, Nathan Watson, and Neil Garretson. Deputies with the Cherokee Sheriff's Office won every gold medal possible in the firearm competitions.
