Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. July 10, 2007-Four deputies with the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office graduated Friday from the North Central Georgia Law Enforcement Academy (NCGLEA). Two of the deputies graduated at the top of their class. Deputy Michaela Menzel earned the Distinguished Honor Graduate award, academically ranking first in the class. Deputy Cynthia Chastain earned the Honor Graduate award, ranking second in the class. Deputies Jonathan Battersby and reserve deputy Mike Pattelis were also among the Cherokee County graduates.
The North Central Georgia Law Enforcement Academy (NCGLEA) is located in Smyrna, Georgia. The Basic Mandate course, which is required to be a peace officer in Georgia, is a ten week course which teaches the fundmentals of law enforcement.
