CSO Awarded Agency of the Year

Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. July 13, 2007-Sheriff Roger Garrison received the first annual Phyllis Goodwin Agency of the Year Award on behalf of the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office at the Georgia Chapter of the FBI National Academy Associates summer conference. The conference was held at Brasstown Valley Resort June 24 through June 27, 2007. Lieutenant Casey Cagle was the guest speaker for the conference. Phyllis Goodwin served the FBI as the Training Tech for over 37 years. Mrs. Goodwin said, “I am honored that an agency with such high standards was the first to receive this award.” Rick Townsend, Chapter President said, “Sheriff Garrison has always been a strong supporter of our chapter and he encourages the National Academy members of his agency to support and serve our chapter in every way possible.” Sheriff Roger Garrison said, "I consider this a high honor to be recognized by this award of excellence by my peers in the law enforcement community."

Sheriff Garrison was the first sheriff’s office employee to graduate from the FBI National Academy. Since that time, Major Vic West, Major Chris Collett, Captain Ed Lacey, Captain Karen Johnson, Captain Ron Hunton, Lieutenant Ken Locke, and Lieutenant Curt Harrell have also graduated from this 10-week program held in Quantico, Va.
