Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. July 16, 2007-A lengthy investigation into an alleged assault that occurred on May 25, 2007 has resulted in charges against two college football players. The incident, which occurred off Wooten Dr., near Lake Allatoona, involved an assault against two teenagers. The victims were 16 and 17 years of age. The 16 year old victim received a severe injury to his eye and the 17 year old victim received minor injuries.
The investigation revealed that some 25 people were involved or had had knowledge of the incident. The two suspects that have been charged thus far are, Paul Taylor, 20 years old of Woodstock, and Shane McCleskey, 19 years old also of Woodstock. Taylor, who plays football at the University of Georgia has been charged with Simple Assault and is expected to turn himself in today. McCleskey who plays football at Murray State University in Kentucky has been charged with Aggravated Battery and Battery. McCleskey was arrested July 14, 2007 and was released on a $28,000.00 bond.
More arrest are possible.
