Drug Task Force Statistics Released


Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. July 19, 2007-Statistics recently release by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (G.B.I.) concerning state drug task forces reflect that Cherokee County has one of the best in the state. The Cherokee Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad (C.M.A.N.S.) is one of 14 regional drug task forces supervised by the G.B.I. In 2006 C.M.A.N.S. had the highest number of cases with a total of 453 and also had the highest number of arrests with a total of 923. The report additional list C.M.A.N.S. drug seizures in 2006 were valued at $2,320,900.00.

C.M.A.N.S. is comprised of officers from local agencies within Cherokee County. Agencies represented in C.M.A.N.S. are the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Cherokee Sheriff's Office, Canton P.D., Holly Springs P.D., Woodstock P.D., and Ball Ground P.D. C.M.A.N.S has been the primary investigative body for narcotics in Cherokee County since it was organized in 1993.

" I am very proud of the drug enforcement efforts of CMANS. This Task Force has served and continues to serve as a model drug task force for the State of Georgia." In a visit from Governor Purdue he stated that "this was one of the best task forces in the state if not in the South East".
