Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. July 25, 2007-At the 2007 Georgia Jail Association (G.J.A.) Conference held this month at Callaway Gardens, Major Chris Collett with the Cherokee Sheriff's Office, was elected 3rd Vice President of the G.S.A. Being the 3rd Vice President essentially guarantees that Major Colett will be the President of the Georgia Jail Association in 2010.

Prior to this election Major Collett was the Region 1 representative for the G.J.A. and has been for the past 2 years.

The G.J.A.'s main objective is to provide a distinct and unified voice for jail officers working in local detention centers across the state of Georgia. The G.J.A. was formed in 1987.

Major Collett is a 14 year veteran with the Cherokee Sheriff's Office and has been the Jail Administrator since 2003. Major Collett has a Bachelor's Degree from Reinhardt College and a Master's Degree from Columbus State University. Major Collett is also a graduate of the F.B.I. National Academy.
