Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. July 30, 2007-The Cherokee Sheriff's Office has been invited to join the Atlanta High Intensity Drug Trafficking (HIDTA) task force. The request comes following the Atlanta HITDA Threat Assessment which indicated major drug activity has reached throughout the 20 counties that make up the Atlanta metropolitian area. Currently Fulton, Dekalb, Cobb, and Gwinnett counties are represented in Atlanta HIDTA.
The mission of the Atlanta HIDTA Program is to achieve measurable success in improving public safety and well-being by disrupting and dismantling drug trafficking and money laundering organizations through intelligence-driven multi-jurisdictional operations; to enhance the safety and effectiveness of law enforcement operations through training; and to improve communication and information sharing among criminal justice, drug prevention, and drug treatment professionals in support of the objectives of the Office of National Drug Control Policy.
The Cheokee County Sheriff's Office does intend on becoming a partner with Atlanta HIDTA and looks forward to making a positive contribution to the agency.
"We are very pleased to be invited to participate with the Atlanta HIDTA. Involvement will greatly enhance our drug enforcement efforts throughout Cherokee County. In today’s drug enforcement environment the efficient exchange of information is critical, this will help move our efforts to a new level."---- Sheriff Roger Garrison.
