Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. July 31, 2007-The Cherokee Sheriff's Office has been reimbursed for it's assistance following the Tornadoes that struck Sumter County Georgia in March of 2007. The Sumter County Board of Commissioners reimbursed the sheriff's office in the amount of $29,192.51.
In March 2007, Sheriff Roger Garrison responded to the request of the Georgia Sheriff's Association by sending a team of deputies to Americus, Georgia to assist local law enforcement in the aftermath of the devastating tornadoes that struck that area.
