Local Boy Scout Raises Money for Public Safety

Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. August 10, 2007-Fourteen year old Seth Johnston, while performing a service project towards earning his Eagle Badge, organized a 5 K run and 1 mile fun run this summer in the Hickory Flat community. Over 200 people were involved in the event. Johnston earned over $2,800.00 and donated $1,437.00 to the Sheriff's Foundation. Johnston ear marked the money to be used for the Cherokee Sheriff's Office Project Lifesaver. The remainder of the money was donated to the Cherokee County Fireman's Fund.

Project Lifesaver is a program in which Cherokee County residents with either Alzheimers, Down Syndrome, or Autism can register their information with the Sheriff's Office. The person is then given a small bracelet which transmits a radio signal. The bracelets aid rescuers in locating the person in the event they should ever go missing or become lost. For more information on Project Lifesaver call 770-928-0239.
