Trash Truck Accident

Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. September 4, 2007- Deputies with the Cherokee Sheriff's Office Traffic Unit are investigating an accident involving a passenger car and a tractor trailer loaded with garbage. The accident which was reported at 8 am Tuesday morning resulted in the tractor trailer landing on its' side dumping part of its load. The passenger vehicle landed upside down on its' roof down an embankment. The driver of the car, Wayne MacDougal, 57 years old of Sugar Hill, received moderate, non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Kennestone Hospital. The driver of the tractor trailer, Calin Petre, 29 years old of Atlanta, was not injured. The tractor trailer belonged to Global Trucking out of Clarkston, Georgia. The accident occurred just west of the bridge on East Cherokee Dr. south of Ball Ground and resulted in the road being closed for 4 hours. Preliminary indications are the tractor trailer was traveling too fast for conditions and flipped over on its side before being struck by the oncoming passenger car.
