Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. September 6, 2007- A new unit within the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office Adult Detention Center has been formed to identify individuals that enter the jail that are possibly associated with gangs, narcotics, or other organized criminal activity. Members of the unit were required to receive specialized training in gang investigations, interviews and interrogations and intelligence gathering. Information obtained by the unit is forwarded to the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office Criminal Intelligence Unit to be used to suppress gang, drug, and other criminal activity.
