Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. September 10, 2007- Cherokee County Sheriff Roger Garrison has been elected as the new Chairman of the Board of the Peace Officers’ Annuity and Benefit Fund (P.O.A.B.) of Georgia. Sheriff Garrison has served on the P.O.A.B. Board since 2004 and was elected Chairman this month. He replaced retired Major Bill Cline of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources who is now the Vice Chairman of the P.O.A.B.
The Peace Officers' Annuity & Benefit Fund of Georgia was created by Act of the General Assembly and signed into law by Governor Herman Talmadge on February 1, 1950. It serves as a supplemental retirement plan for peace officers in addition to their agency retirement plan. The P.O.A.B. currently manages total assets of $490,000,000.00 with 16,051 members.
