Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. September 10, 2007- The Cherokee Sheriff's Office hosted a pistol match Saturday September 8th, for 4 year old Mathew Campbell. The event was a success raising over $3,500.00. Beretta Firearms donated an additional $3,500.00 to bring the total amount raised to just over the $7,000.00 needed to obtain a service dog to monitor Mathew’s type-1 diabetes. Mathew is expected to have the dog by March 2008. Other sponsors of the event were Smyrna Police Distributors, Glock, Dixie Ammo Dump, Master Cartridge, Surefire, Streamlight, Bianchi, and Safariland.
Events at the pistol match included a target and bowling pin shoot. Rob Sheppard, a United States Air Marshall took first place in the target shoot. Cherokee Sheriff’s Sergeant Mike Sweat took second place. The bowling pin shoot was won by Gilmer County Deputy Kyle Anderson with Sheppard taking second place. Pistols were donated by Berretta and Glock as prizes for the winners. 35 public safety officials competed in the event.
