Immigration Training

Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. September 11, 2007-Four members of the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office received immigration training on September 7, 2007 in Dublin, Georgia. The training which was sponsored by the Georgia Sheriff’s Association focused on Sheriff’s Offices response to illegal immigration through a better understanding of national immigration laws, identification and naturalization process, as well as the recognition of fraudulent identifications and paperwork. The goal of this training is to help local law enforcement officers to better understand and handle the complex immigration issues that affect our community.

The training was attended by Major Chris Collett, Captain Karen Johnson, Lieutenant Mike Painter, and Lieutenant Dana Martin. Information obtained at the training will now be taught to all deputies working in the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center.
