Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. October 5, 2007- Cherokee County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a 2-car accident at 12:36 pm today which resulted in a fatality. The accident occurred on Highway 5 at it's intersection with East Cherokee Drive just south of Ball Ground. Willie Paul Evans, 62 years old of Tate, was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger in Evans’ Mitsubishi pick-up was Marcella Moorehead, 59 years old of Tate. Ms. Moorehead received serious injuries and was transported by helicopter to Atlanta Medical Center. The driver of the other vehicle, Franklin Delano Watkins, 72 years old of Ball Ground, received minor injuries and was transported to Northside Cherokee Hospital.

Preliminary indications are that Watkins’ Chevrolet pick-up pulled out in front of Evans’ vehicle which was traveling north on Highway 5. The Cherokee Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit is investigating the accident.
