Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. November 15, 2007- The Cherokee Sheriff’s Office is taking steps in order to help conserve water at the adult detention center. In addition to complying with all water restrictions, commercial washing machines are being filled to capacity to ensure fewer washing loads, water hoses that have been used in the past to clean showers have been replaced with 5 gallon buckets, and a small residential washing machine was purchased to wash small loads. Effective immediately, inmates will be limited to 1 shower per day, the number of times clothing is issued to inmates has been reduced from 3 to 2 times per week, and inmates will be served 1 sack lunch per day which will require no dishwashing.

These measures, along with the fact that we have built in low consumption shower heads, commodes, sinks, and dishwashers should help in the conservation effort. Last month the water consumption was reduced by 98,000 gallons (7%) and we hope the additional measures will increase the savings.
