Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. December 28, 2007- On Thursday d etectives with the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office Crimes against Children Unit arrested Constance Smith, 23 years old of Rockmart, for Cruelty to Children in the 1st Degree. Smith was charged after the parents of a 13 month old boy reported that they had a video of Smith slapping the child in the face. The parents had hired Smith from a metro Atlanta company that specializes in in-home child care. Smith had worked in the home 3 days a week since September and the family recently began videotaping their living room due to concerns they had about their son’s behavior. The video shows Smith slapping the child in the face, pushing the child to the ground, and pinching the child on the leg.

Smith bonded out of the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center last night on a $22,000.00 bond.
