Storm Damage

Woodstock, Cherokee County, Ga. May 20, 2008- South Central Cherokee County received extensive property damage this afternoon as a result of thunderstorms passing through the area. Significant damage has been reported in the area between Holly Springs and Woodstock. Trees are down across roadways and homes in the area. Power companies are working to restore power to residents. A shelter has been established at the Cherokee County South Annex located at 7545 Main St. in Woodstock, Georgia. There have been no reports of fatalities or injuries.

The Cherokee Sheriff’s Office, Cherokee County Fire EMA and Holly Springs Police Department are working together to stabilize the area. At this time the main priority is to get roadways open so that homes can be checked for any unreported injuries. Damage assessments will begin in the morning.
