Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. May 21, 2008- All roads in Cherokee county have been re-opened except for a small section of Barnes Road which will remain closed for utility work for approximately 3 more hours. The Cherokee Sheriff’s Office urges drivers to still use caution when driving in the storm affected area. Even though roads are open there is still some storm debris in the roadway. Crews will remain in the area working on damaged utility lines for some time. After surveying the damaged area today, the National Weather Service determined that an F-1 tornado and straight-line winds caused the damage Tuesday afternoon. Preliminary estimates are that approximately 1000 homes were damaged and 250 homes were severely damaged. An official damage assessment will not be available for a few days. |
