Canton, Cherokee County, Ga. September 26, 2008- Detectives with the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office arrested a Cherokee High School teacher today following allegations from a former student that he sexually assaulted her. Matthew Gantz, 41 years old of Canton is a drama teacher at the school. The victim reported the assaults began 2007 when the victim was 17 years old.

Gantz was charged with 2 counts of Sexual Assault of a Person in Custody and 1 count of Tampering With Evidence. He is being held at the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office Adult Detention Center with a $33,300.00 bond.

The investigation is still ongoing and more charges are possible.
