Sheriff Reynolds announces the arrest of Carlos Suarez-Diaz, 36 years of age, of Canton, for Trafficking Marijuana (F), Possession/Manufacturing Marijuana (F), Obstruction of an Officer (F) and Escape (F). On Friday, June 29, 2018 at 11:32am deputies with the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office Warrant Unit attempted to serve a felony arrest warrant at a residence off of Gold Mill Ridge in Canton. When deputies attempted to make contact with the wanted subject, not Suarez-Diaz, they located an unsecured door in the basement area of the home. When the deputy opened that door they observed what appeared to be a large marijuana grow house. As the investigation continued they located a male, Suarez-Diaz, coming down the main interior stairs of the home. Suarez-Diaz then fled the home with deputies in pursuit. Deputies were able to take Suarez-Diaz into custody after chasing him over several fences and through resident’s backyards. Once back at the residence Suarez-Diaz was able to slip out of one cuff and took off running again from the residence again scaling the backyard fence. He was returned to the residence again where he was checked by Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services for any injuries. Cherokee Multi-Agency Narcotics Unit was requested to assist with evidence collection and removal of the grow house. CMANS advised there were approximately 287 plants located with a street value of over $1 million dollars. Suarez-Diaz is currently in custody at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center with no bond.
